Berkin Dortdivanlioglu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on computational mechanics of soft materials, exploring dynamic morphing and functional changes in stimuli-responsive materials. He leads the Computational Mechanics of Soft Materials Lab (CMSML), which develops advanced computational models and experimental methods to study material instabilities and surface energetics across scales.
Education: Ph.D. (2019), M.S. (2015), and B.S. (2013) in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Stanford University and Middle East Technical University respectively.
Technical interests include continuum mechanics, modeling geometric/material instabilities in soft materials, and multiscale material behavior. His work has led to innovations in hydrogel design, biomimetic materials, and computational tools like the FEniCS-arclength package.
Notable achievements include receiving the NSF CAREER Award and being elected editor of the ASME Mechanics of Soft Materials newsletter. His lab's research spans experimental validation, numerical methods, and interdisciplinary applications in biomedical engineering and environmental science.
