Beretta E. Smith-Shomade is a Professor in the Film and Media Department at Emory University, based in Rich Building 101.
Education includes:

Research examines African-American representation in television, industrial production processes, and narrative constructions within Black popular culture. Scholarly work investigates the intersections of race, gender, and media industries, with recent focus on spiritual imaginings in Black cultural production.
Honors include:
- Fulbright Fellowship for research and teaching at Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria (2008)
- Choice Outstanding Academic Title for co-edited anthology 'Watching While Black' (2013)
Current creative scholarship develops documentary media exploring relationships between Black mothers and daughters.
