Berend Snel

Berend Snel is a Professor of Bioinformatics at Utrecht University, Faculty of Science, Department of Biology. He leads the Evolutionary Genomics and Integrative Bioinformatics group and serves as chair of the executive board of the Utrecht Bioinformatics Center. His work contributes to Sustainable Development Goals related to life sciences and bioinformatics research.

His fingerprint analysis reveals strong contributions to research on Eukaryotes (100%), Genomics (84%), Gene Duplication (49%), Arabidopsis (47%), Kinetochore (46%), Orthology (46%), and Paralogy (44%).

His recent publication trends show a continued focus on eukaryotic evolution, with particular emphasis on metabolic pathways, chromosome segregation mechanisms, spliceosome evolution, and the genomic consequences of endosymbiosis. His work increasingly integrates phylogenomics with structural and functional analyses to reconstruct evolutionary histories.
