Professor Benoît Robert is a Full Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Industrial Engineering at Polytechnique Montréal. He serves as the Head of the Risk & Performance Center (RPC) and is a member of both the Poly-Industries 4.0 Laboratory and the Research Group on Management and Globalization of Technology (GMT). With a publication record spanning over three decades from 1989 to 2025, Professor Robert has established himself as a leading expert in resilience engineering and critical infrastructure management.
Professor Robert's educational background includes a PhD from Polytechnique Montréal (indicated by 'Ph.D. (Poly)' in his credentials), along with B.Eng. and M.Sc.A. degrees. His extensive supervision record shows he has guided 9 PhD students and 38 Master's students through completion of their theses, with the most recent completions in 2023 and 2025 respectively.
Professor Robert's research focuses on risk analysis and management, emergency preparedness planning, operational continuity, organizational resilience, resilience engineering, interdependencies between essential infrastructures, and technology project management. His work particularly emphasizes developing practical methodologies for assessing and enhancing the resilience of critical infrastructure systems. Recent publications show a growing focus on climate change adaptation, municipal infrastructure resilience, and electricity dependency issues in critical systems. His research often bridges theoretical concepts with practical applications, as seen in his development of diagnostic tools like the 'radar of organizational resilience' and his work on operational tools for managing physical interdependencies among critical infrastructures.
Professor Robert's recent publications (2023-2025) demonstrate continued active research in critical infrastructure resilience, with particular attention to municipal infrastructure, electricity dependencies, and climate change adaptation. His work shows a consistent trajectory from foundational research on infrastructure interdependencies to more applied studies focusing on practical implementation of resilience concepts.
