Benoît Loiseau is a postdoctoral researcher in gender studies and comparative literature at the University of Geneva’s Institut Études Genres, holding a Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship.
His educational background includes:
- PhD in French and Comparative Literature from the University of Edinburgh
- MPhil in Contemporary Philosophy from École normale supérieure (PSL)
- MA in Cultural Studies from Goldsmiths, University of London
- BA in Philosophy and Letters from Université Libre de Bruxelles
Loiseau's research spans French and comparative literatures, gender and sexuality studies, continental philosophy, intellectual history, and medical humanities. His doctoral thesis (2023) examined autobiographical practices as queer resistance strategies from the 1980s onward, focusing on Franco-American intellectual history. His current postdoctoral work analyzes queer critiques of psychoanalysis in France (1970s–present), engaging with theorists including Foucault, Deleuze, Guattari, Wittig, Eribon, and Preciado.
His scholarly recognition includes the 2022 R. Gapper Essay Prize. Publications appear in NECSUS, French Studies Bulletin, and Journal of Lesbian Studies, with commentary in The Guardian, The New York Times, and Art Review.
Loiseau co-founded the queer literary anthology BitterSweet Review and is completing the book "The Clinic: Radical Experiments in the Art of (Health) Care" (Fitzcarraldo Editions, 2025).
