Benoit RIES

Benoit Ries is a Research Scientist at the University of Luxembourg's Department of Computer Science, part of the SAGE team within the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine. He holds a permanent research position since 2009 and has contributed to the LASSY laboratory under Prof. Nicolas Guelfi. His research focuses on software engineering methodologies for modeling and predicting natural ecosystems restoration, exemplified by his leadership of the Greenware R&D initiative in the BiCS students’ laboratory. He has taught software engineering at the bachelor and master levels at the University of Luxembourg, as well as international institutions like Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and Innopolis University.

Dr. Ries played a pivotal role in designing and launching the Bachelor in Computer Science (BiCS) program under Prof. Guelfi's leadership. He recently introduced an innovative master-level course on GreenIT and IT for environmental sustainability. His academic journey includes a PhD from the University of Luxembourg (2009, in collaboration with IEE company), a Master of Science from LORIA (Nancy), and a Master’s in Computer Science and Engineering (SIGL specialization) from EPITA in Paris.

Current affiliations include the Maison du Nombre research facility in Esch-sur-Alzette, where he contributes to interdisciplinary projects at the intersection of software engineering and environmental science.
