Benoit Muylkens is a Researcher at the University of Namur, affiliated with the Integrated Veterinary Research Unit under the Namur Research Institute for Life Sciences. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Sciences in 2006 from the Université de Liège, focusing on recombination in bovine herpesvirus 1.
His research spans virology, epigenetics, and RNA biology, particularly investigating the role of circular RNAs in viral latency, oncogenesis, and host-pathogen interactions. Key projects include studying Marek’s disease virus, lymphotropic herpesviruses, and retrovirus-induced cancers, alongside work on SARS-CoV-2 survival on surfaces.
Recent trends in his publications emphasize viral replication, epigenetic modifications, and antimicrobial resistance in livestock. He has contributed to understanding how epigenetic silencing of miR-126 promotes tumor growth and the reassortment dynamics of Simbuviruses.
He actively participates in organizing scientific events like the Namur Research Pole in Infectiology and serves on examination juries for external theses, including topics on Brucellosis and viral co-receptors. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals in Education/Academic Qualification.
