Benjamin Torbert is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at the University of Missouri–St. Louis (UMSL) within the College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on sociolinguistics, particularly English language variety in North America and the Caribbean, with emphasis on regional and socioethnic dimensions of language variation.

His scholarly work includes publications in American Speech, Southern Journal of Linguistics, and the de Gruyter World Atlas of Varieties of English.
