Benjamin Reid Phillips

Benjamin Reid Phillips serves as Professor of Foundation Studies at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) since September 2004, previously holding a Teaching Assistant position in Sequential Art at SCAD during summer 2001.

His educational foundation includes an M.F.A. in Sequential Art from SCAD and a B.F.A. in Communication Arts and Design from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Professor Phillips specializes in visual narrative techniques across Sequential Art and Comic Book creation, with significant contributions to storyboarding methodology through co-authoring Storyboarding Essentials. His creative practice integrates 2D design principles with experimental approaches to character development and visual storytelling, particularly evident in horror and independent comic anthologies.

His publication history demonstrates consistent engagement with horror-themed and editorial comics, featuring recurring exploration of character-driven narratives across commercial properties like Family Guy and Archie, alongside independent works such as the award-winning Dr. Dead serial.
