Benjamin Kozuch is an Associate Professor in the Philosophy Department at the University of Alabama and Deputy Editor at Neuroscience of Consciousness. He holds a PhD from the University of Arizona (2013), an MA from the same institution (2010), and a BA in English from Penn State University (1993).
His research focuses on the philosophy of cognitive science and philosophy of mind, particularly the relationship between neuroscience and consciousness. Key themes include higher-order theories of consciousness, neural correlates of consciousness (NCC), and the integration of empirical and philosophical approaches to understanding consciousness.
His work critiques theories like Milner and Goodale’s Dual Visual Systems (DVS) model, examining how visual consciousness interacts with motor action. Notable publications include critiques of higher-order theories using prefrontal lesion data and analyses of visual illusions’ effects on perception and action.
Recent articles explore interdisciplinary topics such as the limits of introspection, the role of the prefrontal cortex in consciousness, and the philosophical implications of empirical findings in neuroscience.
