Benjamin Gust

Prof. Dr. Benjamin Gust is a Professor for Social Media & Digital Communication at the Technical University of Central Hesse (THM), Department of Digital Media Systems. He holds a PhD in user orientation in social networks from the University of Salford, UK, and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism & Public Relations from Westfälische Hochschule, Gelsenkirchen.

• Research Focus: Digital communication (especially computer-mediated communication), social media strategies, community management, crisis/shitstorm prevention, and digital/public relations.
• Teaching Areas: Digital Media + Communication 1, Digital Texting, Content & Community Management, Communication Campaigns for Social Media, Communication and Creative Strategy for Social Media, Integration Project 2.

He supervises theses on topics like social media strategy, campaigns, journalistic format development for platforms, empathy in digital communities, fake news mitigation, and optimal agency briefing. He is a member and former board member of the Federal Association of Community Management (BVCM).
