Benjamin Carpenter

Benjamin Carpenter serves as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Associate Professor of Law at the University of St. Thomas School of Law. He holds a JD from Mercer University and a BA from the University of Notre Dame. His expertise spans Wills and Trusts, estate planning, and family law, with a focus on assisted reproductive technologies' legal implications and professional identity in law.

He teaches Lawyering Skills I and oversees Supervised Research & Writing. His scholarship has been cited by the Michigan Supreme Court and Federal District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He previously practiced at international law firms and managed a private capital firm, leveraging these experiences to advise students on career development.

Awarded Professor of the Year (2014), he also explores tensions between law firms’ pro bono efforts and civil legal aid systems. His board role at a trust company informs his interdisciplinary approach to legal education and practice.
