Dr Benet Salway is a Senior Lecturer in Ancient History at University College London's Department of History. His research focuses on Later Roman history, Roman epigraphy, onomastics, Roman law, and travel/geography in the Graeco-Roman world. He contributes to projects like the British Academy Projet Volterra on Roman Law and serves as Area Editor (Geography) for the Oxford Classical Dictionary.

Research Interests: Explores Roman legal traditions, naming practices, and spatial narratives through epigraphic and textual sources. Current projects investigate the intersection of law, geography, and political discourse in late antiquity.
Grants & Projects: Leads Projet Volterra II (Law and the end of Empire) and collaborates internationally on l'Année épigraphique.
Advising & Grants: Supervises PhDs on topics like Roman political compromise and imperial administration. Recent advisees include Tom Campbell-Moffat (2023) and Gabrielle Villais (2016).
Labs/Teams: Editorial roles include Roman Legal Tradition and Mnemosyne Supplements. Active in the British Epigraphy Society and UCL's MA Ancient History program.
