Ben Y. Zhao

Ben Y. Zhao is the Neubauer Professor of Computer Science at the University of Chicago, where he has held a faculty position since 2017. He co-directs the SAND Lab (Security, Algorithms, Networking and Data) with Heather Zheng, focusing on adversarial machine learning and tools to mitigate generative AI harms against human creatives. His academic background includes a PhD in Computer Science (2004) from UC Berkeley, advised by John Kubiatowicz and Anthony Joseph, with a dissertation on the Tapestry distributed hash table.
