Ben Wahlund serves as full-time Instructor of Percussion at Northern Illinois University within the School of Music, College of Visual and Performing Arts, and as Director of Percussion at College of DuPage. A Grammy-nominated music educator, composer, and performer, he has received the NIU Excellence in Undergraduate Instruction Award and College of DuPage College-Wide Outstanding Faculty Award for his distinguished teaching career.
His educational foundation includes a Master of Music and Performer's Certificate from Northern Illinois University. Wahlund's pedagogical approach combines 'serious rigor with great affectionate joy,' resulting in dynamic instruction across university, youth orchestra, and workshop settings.
Wahlund's creative work spans Music Education, Composition, and Percussion Performance. His compositions have earned international awards and are distributed by major publishers including C. Alan, Musicon, Bachovich, and HoneyRock Publications, performed by professionals worldwide. He actively shapes percussion education through leadership roles including President of the Illinois Percussive Arts Society and directorship of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra percussion ensemble.
