Ben WARREN

Ben WARREN is an Associate Professor and Curator at the National Museum of Natural History (France). He holds an HDR qualification and has expertise in systematic biology, phylogeography, and conservation. His career includes roles at UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre, BirdLife International, and postdoctoral positions at institutions such as the University of Zurich, Reading University, and Tennessee University. He specializes in insular biogeography, focusing on processes shaping biodiversity and conservation strategies.

Education: PhD on bird phylogeography in the western Indian Ocean (University of East Anglia, NHMUK, Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute). Postdoc research spanned multiple taxa and islands, including La Réunion. Current research integrates genetics, biogeography, and oceanic islands to study extinction susceptibility, eco-evolutionary dynamics, and speciation processes in taxa like sea-lavenders (Limonium).

Research interests emphasize biodiversity generation/elimination mechanisms, conservation applications, and island ecosystems. Collaborates with conservation decision-makers to translate findings into actionable strategies.

Publications (selected): 15+ recent articles on topics including island bird diversity models, conservation genetics of endangered species, cricket taxonomy, and phylogenetic studies of island lineages.
