معرفی
Ben Seymour is a Professor of Clinical Neuroscience and Wellcome Senior Clinical Research Fellow at the University of Oxford. He holds joint affiliations at the Wellcome Centre for Integrative Neuroimaging and the Oxford Institute for Biomedical Engineering, and is a visiting researcher at ATR labs (Kyoto). He also serves as a Turing Fellow at the Alan Turing Institute and an honorary consultant neurologist at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust. His work focuses on computational and systems neuroscience of pain, integrating theoretical modeling of neuronal processes with experimental methods like fMRI, to develop technology-based therapies for clinical pain populations.
Education: BSc, MB ChB, PhD, MRCP, FRSA.
Research interests include pain perception and aversive learning, with applications in neurotechnology and AI safety. Key projects involve the UKRI Neurotechnology Network for Chronic Pain, Versus/MRC studies on cognitive-motor learning in chronic pain, and the IITP/KAIST collaboration on safe AI systems. His work bridges clinical neurology, computational models, and robotics to advance pain treatment and AI control systems.
Notable awards include the Wellcome Senior Clinical Research Fellowship and Turing Fellowship. His lab’s recent studies address pain variability, neurofeedback modulation of insula activity, and statistical learning in pain perception.
Grants include funding from UKRI, Versus Arthritis, MRC, and KAIST. Collaborations span institutions in the UK, Japan, and South Korea. He leads the Pain and Aversive Learning research group, emphasizing translational research from bench to bedside.
