Ben Manski is an Assistant Professor of Public Sociology at George Mason University, where he directs the Next System Studies program and leads the Next Constitutions Research Lab at the Center for Social Science Research. His work bridges Social Movements, Constitutionalism, and System Change, with particular focus on democracy, ecology, digital technology, and corporate power.
His Research Interests span the sociology of constitutions, revolutionary constitutionalism, environmental sociology, socio-economic transformation, and comparative methods in movement studies. He specializes in movement-led institutional design, democratic innovation, and post-capitalist system building, often connecting digital technologies and ecological sustainability to broader constitutional debates.
In Publications, his work examines themes like blockchain sovereignty, labor-environmental alliances, and constitutional praxis through both peer-reviewed journals and activist-oriented platforms. He has contributed to journals such as Frontiers in Sociology, Environmental Science & Policy, and Law & Critique, often emphasizing the democratic potential of grassroots constitutionalism and movement-generated systemic alternatives.
His Teaching includes courses on Social Movements and Political Protest, Environment and Society, Proseminar in Public and Applied Sociology, and seminars on Next System Studies. He integrates public sociology and interventionist research into his pedagogy, working closely with community organizations, labor unions, and ecological campaigns.
A lifelong activist, Manski has organized major campaigns including the Wisconsin Uprising, Global Climate Strike, and Move to Amend. He co-founded the Liberty Tree Foundation and served as National Director of Campus Greens. His Grants include over $430,000 for Next System Studies and university fellowships supporting his research on systemic alternatives.
