Ben Maathuis is a Researcher and Project Manager in the Department of Water Resources. His work focuses on hydrology, water resources management, and remote sensing applications in agriculture, particularly in Ethiopia. He has contributed to over 90 research outputs since 2001, with a focus on sustainable development goals related to clean water and climate action.
His research interests include rainfall monitoring, irrigation scheme performance evaluation, and satellite data integration for environmental analysis. Recent studies emphasize Ethiopia’s agricultural challenges, such as small-scale irrigation efficiency and data-scarce region hydrology.
Ben has collaborated on datasets like Integrating in-situ data with satellite-derived products and presented work on computational tools like ILWISpy. His contributions align with UN SDGs, addressing water scarcity and sustainable agriculture in arid regions.
