Ben Holgate

Dr. Ben Holgate is a Senior Research Fellow in Health-Related Natural Language Processing and AI Methods Applied to Health Records at King’s College London, part of the School of Mental Health & Psychological Sciences. He holds a DPhil in English from the University of Oxford and advanced degrees in data science and finance. His primary roles include leading the DATAMIND mental health project and co-PI of an MRC-funded epilepsy initiative, conducted part-time. Holgate’s research focuses on applying AI and NLP to medical texts and broader data science methodologies. He previously held a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship at Queen Mary University of London and taught at the University of York.

His expertise spans computational text analysis, with notable publications like Climate and Crises (Routledge, 2019), exploring magical realism’s environmental discourse. He is affiliated with King’s Institute for Artificial Intelligence and has organized events on AI in healthcare and genomics.
