Ben Fitton is a Senior Lecturer and Year 2 Leader in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London. His practice combines performative interventions, text, and impermanent public installations to explore politics of presentation, participation, and spectatorship. He holds a BA (Hons) from Nottingham Trent University and an MA from the University of the Arts London.
Key research interests include site-specific strategies, authorial ambiguity, and the interplay between physical structures and conceptual ambiguity. Notable projects include collaborations with Dylan Shipton on temporary public structures like GUNSGOOFFTHEMSELVES (2014) and The Overbearing Mother (2011), as well as solo exhibitions such as 'An apparition or an interface...' (2020) and 'Wir entscheiden...' (2019).
His 2016 article in Art & the Public Sphere critically examines art's role in contemporary discourse. Recent exhibitions engage with historical materialism, linguistic deconstruction, and the politics of public space through multimedia installations.
Fitton's work frequently appropriates institutional rhetoric and material processes to question authorship and audience relationships, with projects displayed internationally including Site Gallery Sheffield, Töne Festival Chatham, and IBID Projects London.
