Professor Dhooge's research focuses on early twentieth-century (Modernist) Russian literature, both Soviet and émigré, with central themes including language experimentation, discourse on language and cultural identity, poetics, literary criticism, émigré culture, and civic poetry. He has particular expertise in the works of Andrei Platonov, Skit Poetov, Veshch'-Gegenstand-Objet, and Vladimir Nabokov. His current research projects examine topics such as word-based art by silenced youth, the instrumentalization of Russia's literary heritage, and writing the past in exile through interwar Russian émigré historical novels.
His publication record demonstrates consistent scholarly output across multiple languages, with significant contributions appearing in 2018 including chapters on Nabokov's reading practices, émigré literature, and civic poetry in Russian Prague. His research spans literary analysis, cultural history, and linguistic studies, reflecting an interdisciplinary approach to Russian literary studies.
As an educator, Professor Dhooge coordinates the webclass 'Russian Cultural History: Russia between East and West' and supervises numerous BA and MA theses.
