Research interests include validating decision-rule models for visual detection, optimizing symbology visibility in displays, and minimizing user impacts from chaotic packet networks. His work bridges theoretical vision science with practical human-system interface design.
Selected publications explore OSI model extensions for human factors, convex hull hypotheses in color search, and linear separability effects in visual perception. Bauer collaborates with industry on telecommunication usability challenges and has developed empirically-validated design guidelines.
