Belisa González is Professor of Sociology and Dean of Faculty, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging at Ithaca College. She earned her PhD in Sociology from Emory University (2006) and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Georgia. Her administrative leadership focuses on institutional equity frameworks and faculty development initiatives.
Her research examines:
- Intergroup dynamics between African American and Latino communities
- Structural discrimination experiences of Dominican/Mexican immigrants
- Cross-racial coalition building in Southern U.S. contexts
- Community-based participatory research methodologies
Major projects include:
- NSF-funded 4-year study on immigrant discrimination (co-investigated with Emory University)
- 3-year assessment of Multicultural Resource Center's Talking Circles program
- Founding director of Urban Mentorship Initiative (2008-2018), connecting NYC middle-school students with college mentors
She develops and facilitates institutional workshops on:
- Microaggression mitigation in classrooms
- Equity-centered hiring practices
- Conflict resolution frameworks for workplace dialogues
