Belinda McCully

Belinda McCully, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Physiology at the Department of Basic Medical Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific - Northwest, Western University of Health Sciences. She has held academic and research roles at institutions such as Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) and University College Cork. Her education includes a PhD in Physiology from University College Cork, an MS in Human Physiology from the University of Oregon, and a BS in Exercise and Movement Science from the same university.

Dr. McCully's research focuses on vascular physiology, blood pressure regulation, heart failure, and trauma-induced pathologies. Her work explores mechanisms linking obesity to coagulopathy, hemorrhagic shock, and inflammation in critically injured patients. Key projects include investigating prothrombin complex concentrate efficacy in combat trauma and mesenchymal stem cells for acute respiratory distress syndrome prevention.

Her funded grants total over $6.6 million, including Department of Defense awards for trauma-related research. Notable awards include the Neural Control and Autonomic Regulation Early Career Award (2013) and the SEBM Young Investigator Award (2007). She is an active member of the American Physiological Society and American Heart Association.

Dr. McCully has led multiple educational initiatives, including the Block Co-Director role for OHSU's Fundamentals of Medicine and laboratory instruction in physiology at both Western University and University College Cork. Her teaching spans vascular physiology, trauma management, and medical education innovation.

Her laboratory and team collaborations focus on translational research bridging basic science and clinical trauma care, with a particular emphasis on improving outcomes for patients with severe hemorrhage and multiple organ dysfunction syndromes.
