Becky Conekin is a Senior Lecturer in History at Yale University and Senior Research Fellow at the Whitney & Betty MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies. She holds a PhD in Modern European History from the University of Michigan and previously taught at the London College of Fashion. Her research focuses on fashion history, cultural studies, and 20th-century British history. She has held fellowships at institutions including the University of Cambridge and the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris. Her work explores topics such as Lee Miller’s multifaceted career, Mod subculture, and the socio-cultural impact of fashion.
Dr. Conekin’s academic contributions include books like Lee Miller in Fashion, 1927-1953 and articles in journals such as History & Technology. She is also an editor for Twentieth Century British History. Her current research project, Pretty Hard Work: A History of Fashion Modelling in London, is funded by the British Academy and Leverhulme Trust. She teaches graduate seminars on 1968 social movements and London’s role in modernity, alongside supervising senior essays in British history.
Her professional affiliations include the Royal Historical Society and editorial roles in fashion and historical studies. She has examined PhD dissertations across art, music, and contemporary culture.
