Becky Claire Fuller is a Professor in the Department of Evolution, Ecology, and Behavior at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She also holds affiliate positions in the Neuroscience Program and the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology. As Head of her department, she leads research and academic initiatives focused on evolutionary biology and animal behavior.
Her research investigates speciation, sexual selection, and phenotypic plasticity in fish populations, particularly killifish. Her lab uses genomic approaches to explore how environmental factors like lighting and predation influence coloration, mating systems, and evolutionary processes. Recent work emphasizes genetic variation in color patterns and behavioral adaptations.
Notable contributions include studies on male aggression dynamics in bluefin killifish and polyphenism in fish populations. Fuller has been recognized with prestigious awards: AAAS Fellow (2023) and NSF CAREER Award (2010).
Her administrative roles include departmental leadership and treasurer for the American Naturalist. She collaborates internationally, leveraging interdisciplinary methods to advance evolutionary ecology.
