Beate Schirrmacher is a researcher at Linnaeus University's Faculty of Arts and Humanities and Department of Film and Literature. Within the Linnaeus University Centre for Intermedial and Multimodal Studies (IMS), she leads the board of the International Society for Intermedial and Multimodal Studies and contributes to doctoral school Multimodality and Intermediality for a Digital World (MIDWorld) funded by the Swedish Research Council.
Her research explores intermediality – the interaction between literature and other media – with a focus on

- Digital media's impact on narratives
- Intermedial performance theories
Recent publications examine truth manipulation in digital spaces, musical structures in fiction, and multimodal analytical models. She co-edited the 2024 volume Truth Claims Across Media and contributes to the Linnaeus Media Observatory (LiMO) research platform.
