She applies empirical methodologies to investigate second language acquisition and cultural learning processes.
Dr. BAUMANN plays a key leadership role in international research. She is Vice President of the Inter-University Research Center POLYPHONIE (University of Catania and Genoa) and leads its Catania node. Since 2010, she has co-edited the international research project "Polyphonie. Mehrsprachigkeit_Kreativität_Schreiben," a multilingual platform for interdisciplinary research on multilingualism and creativity in writing. She has also led and participated in several research projects funded by the University of Catania, including PROMETEO 1 (as principal investigator), PROMETEO 3, FIR "Identity and Interaction between Languages, Literatures, and Cultural Expressions," and a 2008 project on performative linguistic phenomena in German-language transcultural writing.
She has supervised student theses on topics such as bilingualism in South Tyrol and the role of culture in teaching German and Italian as second languages, indicating her active role in academic mentoring. She regularly teaches German language and linguistics courses, with recent exam notices confirming her ongoing teaching responsibilities.
Dr. BAUMANN has collaborated internationally, notably with Dr. Wiebke Otten from Freie Universität Berlin on an intercultural learning exchange project involving German and Italian migration literature for youth. Her work is interdisciplinary, bridging linguistics, literature, and education.
