Prof. Dr. Beat Neuenschwander is a full professor in Applied Laser Technology at Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH), leading the ALPS Institute. He specializes in laser micro-processing, ultra-short pulse applications, and process optimization. His research focuses on industrial laser solutions, including surface engineering, high-throughput manufacturing, and material interaction dynamics. Neuenschwander holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Bern and has over 25 years of academic and industrial experience.
Education: Dipl. Phys. (1992), PhD in Physics (1996), both from the University of Bern. Professional roles include leadership in national photonics networks (Swissphotonics), expert roles at innosuisse, and chairmanship of the LASE Symposium (Photonics West). He has pioneered projects on laser machining innovations, including high-power ultrashort pulse systems and synchronized scanning techniques.
Research interests revolve around optimizing laser processes for precision industries, such as semiconductor, medical, and tool manufacturing. Key areas include burst-mode processing, heat accumulation mitigation, and scalable high-throughput solutions. His work bridges fundamental physics and industrial applications, addressing challenges in material removal rates, surface quality, and energy efficiency.
Notable projects include EU-funded initiatives on laser manufacturing hubs and collaborations with industry partners to advance laser micromachining technologies. He frequently presents at international conferences (e.g., CLEO, ICALEO) and advises on photonics innovation strategies.
