Prof. Bayram ÖZTÜRK is a distinguished Turkish marine biologist at Istanbul University, serving as Professor in the Faculty of Aquatic Sciences, Department of Marine and Freshwater Resources Management. With a career spanning over 35 years, he has held key positions including Head of Department (2005-2009, 1997-2001), Dean (2006-2009), and University Executive Board Member (2002-2005). His scientific journey began with a Doctorate in Deniz Bilimleri (1989) and Postgraduate studies (1987) at Istanbul University, following an Undergraduate degree in Biyolojik Oşinografi (1983) from Ege University.

As a leading authority in marine mammal ecology, fisheries, and marine pollution, Prof. ÖZTÜRK has published 271 WoS-indexed works and supervised 22 theses. His research spans cetacean population genetics, invasive species dynamics, and environmental contamination analysis, with major contributions to understanding the genetic structure of Phocoena phocoena in Turkish waters and documenting marine alien species in the Mediterranean.
His recent publications focus on harbour porpoise genetics (2025), gorgonian coral transplantation (2023), and anthropogenic impacts on marine ecosystems (2019). Over 47 projects have advanced marine conservation, including proposals for Turkish marine protected areas and international Antarctic research collaborations.
