Bassel Mahmoud

Bassel Mahmoud, MD, PhD, FAAD is an Associate Professor of Dermatology at UMass Chan Medical School and serves as Director of Teledermatology. He leads the Melanocyte-Keratinocyte Transplantation Procedure (MKTP) at UMass's Vitiligo Clinic and Research Center, a treatment for refractory vitiligo.

• Specializes in vitiligo surgery, laser therapy, and Mohs micrographic surgery
• Completed dermatology residencies at Ain Shams University Hospital and Henry Ford Hospital
• Procedural dermatology fellowship at Lahey Clinic/Harvard Medical School

His research focuses on immunological markers for vitiligo, phototherapy effects on skin, and emerging immunosuppressive treatments. He has authored numerous publications and co-edited a vitiligo textbook.

Selected publications reveal expertise in vitiligo surgery, laser treatments, and skin cancer reconstruction, with studies on Nd:YAG lasers, microRNA biomarkers, and fractional laser therapies.
