His research applies epidemiologic methods to optimize cancer care quality, focusing on decision-making processes, survivorship outcomes, and health literacy in urologic malignancies. Key investigations examine socioeconomic disparities in treatment access, functional recovery post-surgery, and policy impacts on cancer care affordability. This work bridges clinical practice with population health to enhance patient-centered care delivery.
Recent publications (2024-2025) reveal dominant trends in prostate cancer management:
- Increasing adoption of active surveillance for low-risk cases
- Racial/ethnic disparities in treatment intensity
- Functional outcomes as critical treatment metrics
- Policy impacts on drug affordability (e.g., Inflation Reduction Act)
- Gender inequality in clinical trial leadership
- Health literacy's role in cancer mortality
- American Urological Association Research Scholar Award
As Director of the Adult Urology Clinic and The Ronald Stanton Clinical Scholar, Dr. Al Hussein leads quality improvement initiatives while mentoring trainees. His grant portfolio includes health services research examining treatment decision-making and disparities, supported by institutional and professional society awards. Current projects analyze socioeconomic determinants of cancer outcomes and optimize survivorship care pathways.
He collaborates with multidisciplinary teams across Weill Cornell's Department of Urology and Population Health Sciences, contributing to clinical operations, research design, and educational programs focused on advancing equitable urologic cancer care through surgical innovation and population health strategies.
