Bartholomeus Ramakers

Bartholomeus Ramakers is a Professor at the Faculty of Arts, affiliated with the Research Centre for Historical Studies (CHS). His research focuses on memorialization, art history, and pre-modern cultural studies, with a particular interest in topics like ephemeral arts, remembrance, and historical iconography. He has contributed to interdisciplinary projects exploring the intersections of literature, visual arts, and cultural practices in early modern Europe.

Recent research includes analyses of emotions in early modern plays, Dutch colonial art, and historical games. His work bridges literary and visual analysis, addressing themes such as moral discernment, cultural identity, and ethical representation. Ramakers has organized academic events on Dutch cultural history and participated in research initiatives like the NWO-funded "Cities of Readers" and the COST Action on religious transformation in Europe.
