Professor Bartek Papiez holds the position of Associate Professor in Engineering Science at the University of Oxford, where he leads the Medical Image Analysis and Machine Learning research group at the Big Data Institute (BDI). He is also a Stipendiary Lecturer at St Peter's College and Lady Margaret Hall, teaching Engineering Science and AI/ML in Healthcare. His research bridges theoretical foundations of AI/ML algorithms and their application in longitudinal disease monitoring, genetic data integration, and cancer imaging. Notable achievements include the Young Scientist Award (2013) and Rutherford Fund Fellowships (2018–2021). He earned his PhD from the University of Central Lancashire and a Master's from AGH University of Science and Technology.
His research focuses on medical image analysis, including image segmentation, registration, and radiogenomics, alongside integrating imaging with patient records and NLP. He has pioneered multidisciplinary projects at the BDI, Oxford Cancer Imaging Centre, and Linacre College. Teaching extends to workshops on AI in Biomedical Imaging and Medical Imaging across the University and external institutions.
- Awards: Young Scientist Award (MICCAI Society), Rutherford Fund Fellowships
- Research Groups: Medical Image Analysis Lab, Oxford Cancer Imaging Centre
- Teaching Roles: Stipendiary Lecturer at St Peter's College, LMH; Exeter College Lecturer (2018–20)
Recent work emphasizes multimodal cancer imaging and AI-driven solutions for healthcare challenges, reflected in publications on diffusion models, medical image registration, and clinical decision-support systems.
