Bart P.M. van Esch

Bart P.M. van Esch is an Associate Professor in the Power & Flow section at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology. His expertise spans thermal and fluid engineering, energy conversion, hydraulic turbomachinery, and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). He also serves as a senior hydraulic engineer at Bosman Watermanagement and holds a part-time professorship at Jiangsu University, China. His industrial experience informs both his research on energy-efficient pumping systems and fish-friendly pump designs, and his teaching approach.

Education includes an MSc in Astronomy from Leiden University (1990), Master of Technological Design in Computational Mechanics from Twente University (1992), and PhD from Twente University (1997). He has held editorial roles for several journals including Journal of Fluids Engineering and Experimental Thermal and Fluid Science.

Research focuses on hydraulic engineering applications including minimizing energy usage in pumping stations and developing sustainable pump technologies. Collaborations extend to universities in China and industrial partners such as Tata Steel, Flowserve, and DAMEN Schelde Naval Shipbuilding.
