Barry Wylant is an Associate Professor and Director of the SAPL PhD & MEDes Graduate Program at the University of Calgary's School of Architecture Planning and Landscape (SAPL). He advises thesis students in the Master of Environmental Design (MEDes), PhD, and Doctor of Design (DDes) programs. His work focuses on design thinking, particularly the 'how' of design processes, with a strong emphasis on transdisciplinary collaboration and community impact.

Research Interests: Wylant explores thoughtfulness in design, diagramming methodologies, and technological innovation. His research bridges design with health initiatives, including aging-in-place solutions and accessibility technologies. Advising & Contributions: As program director, he oversees graduate research in design disciplines. His design consultancy experience and industrial design background inform his academic work, fostering innovation across interdisciplinary projects.
