Dr. Barry J. Frauens is a Full Professor and Clinic Chief of Primary Care at the Nova Southeastern University (NSU) College of Optometry. He serves as Chief of the Primary Care Service at the N. Miami Beach Clinic and previously chaired the Department of Clinics for nearly a decade. A graduate of NSU College of Optometry (1996), he completed a residency in Primary Care Optometry at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry.
Dr. Frauens is a distinguished leader in the optometric field, having served as President of the Florida Optometric Association and Broward County Optometric Association. His research focuses on glaucoma and ocular disease management, alongside advocacy for medical error prevention. He holds fellowships with the American Academy of Optometry, Optometric Glaucoma Society, and Optometric Retina Society, and is Board Certified by the American Board of Optometry.
