University of California , Santa Barbara (UCSB)معرفی
Barry Giesbrecht is a Professor in the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), within the College of Letters & Science. He leads the Attention Lab and holds affiliations with the Dynamical Neuroscience research group. His research focuses on understanding the neural mechanisms of selective attention, integrating cognitive psychology, neuroimaging (fMRI/EEG), and psychophysiological methods.
Education: BA in Psychology from University of Waterloo (Canada), PhD from University of Alberta (Canada), followed by postdoctoral training at Duke University. He joined UCSB in 2004 after research roles at UC Davis.
Research interests emphasize how attention dynamically adjusts to internal goals and external environments, particularly non-spatial attentional mechanisms. Key themes include value-driven attention, stress impacts on navigation, and neural correlates of working memory. His work bridges cognitive theory with advanced neuroimaging techniques.
Recent publications highlight studies on attentional vigilance, stress resilience in navigation, and novel bioimpedance monitoring methods. Awards include NSERC scholarships and McDonnell-Pew Program support.
Grants and collaborations involve multidisciplinary projects on brain networks, stress physiology, and augmented reality applications. He has advised numerous graduate students (not individually listed here) and contributed to open-source neuroimaging tools like QSIPrep.
His lab explores cutting-edge topics such as cardiac-neural interactions and longitudinal brain network analysis, reflecting his commitment to advancing understanding of adaptive cognitive systems.
