Barry Gibson is Professor in Medical Sociology at the School of Clinical Dentistry, University of Sheffield, where he leads the Person-centred and Population Oral Health Research Group. He has been at the university since 2004 and previously worked at King's College Dental School, London. His work integrates sociology, public health, and dentistry, with a strong emphasis on patient-centered care and qualitative methodologies.
His research interests include:

- Public health policy, especially water fluoridation
- Patient voices in care, particularly among children and young adults

His grants support work on sustainable sugar consumption, gum health, and environmental pollutants in dental materials.
