Barbara von Rütte

Dr. Barbara von Rütte is a Post-doctoral Researcher at the Department of Ethics, Law, and Politics, Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity (MPI-MMG), a position she has held since October 2019. She is an attorney-at-law specializing in citizenship, migration, and international human rights frameworks.

Dr. von Rütte's research centers on the evolution of citizenship from state-controlled privilege to individual human right, with emphasis on legal identity frameworks and Jus Nexi principles. Her doctoral work, conducted under the Swiss National Center of Competence in Research (NCCR) on the Migration Mobility Nexus and Bern's Center for Migration Law, critically examined citizenship as a universal entitlement.
