Dr. Barbara Young is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Interior Design at Purdue University's Rueff School of Design, Art, and Performance. A registered interior designer (RID) with LEED Accreditation and NCIDQ certification, she focuses on evidence-based and socially responsible design practices.

Her research explores participatory design processes for community environments through interdisciplinary collaboration and cultural competency development. She integrates virtual reality tools into design education and advocates for service learning initiatives that extend beyond traditional academic boundaries.
Professionally, Young contributes to the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) as a site visitor and maintains active memberships in the Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC) and International Interior Design Association (IIDA). Her teaching experience spans senior lecturer roles at the University of Kentucky and Indiana University.
