Barbara Russell is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta University, where she also serves as Assistant Dean. She holds academic appointments in the Department of Pathology, the Graduate School, and the College of Allied Health Sciences, specifically in the Department of Undergraduate Health Professions: Medical Laboratory, Imaging and Radiologic Sciences. Her work bridges clinical laboratory science, medical education, and academic administration.

Her research and teaching focus on Medical Education, Interprofessional Education, Laboratory Medicine, Hematology, and Microbiology. The recent publications reflect a strong emphasis on diagnostic accuracy, laboratory safety, and clinical microbiology. Topics include hemolyzed specimen management, fecal lactoferrin utility, PNAFISH-based antimicrobial adjustments, and microbiology safety protocols. These works highlight her expertise in translating laboratory science into clinical education and practice.

Barbara Russell has extensive service in academic governance and educational leadership. She has chaired and served on key committees including the Pathology Faculty Search Committee, MCG Curriculum Oversight Committee, LCME Self-Study Committee, and the University’s Faculty Activity Reporting teams. Professionally, she has held leadership roles in the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science, including as Chair of the Education Scientific Assembly and Board Member for ASCLS-Georgia. She is also active in the Group on Research in Pathology Education and interprofessional education initiatives.
