Barbara Junisbai is an Associate Professor of Organizational Studies at Pitzer College since 2016. She holds a PhD in Political Science, an MIS in Information Science, and a BA in International Relations/Geography. Her research focuses on post-Soviet politics, comparative authoritarianism, and liberatory pedagogies in prison education. She is currently on sabbatical during Spring 2025.
Her recent work includes a forthcoming book *The Pitfalls of Family Rule* (Cornell UP, 2025) analyzing destabilizing effects of presidential families in autocratic regimes. She also explores organizational learning through a signature course project funded by the Notre Dame Institute. Junisbai has been a key collaborator in interdisciplinary initiatives, such as faculty-librarian partnerships and prison education programs.
She has received grants from the Blaise Challenge Grant, Sontag Center, and serves as Faculty Co-Director of The Claremont Colleges' Center for Teaching and Learning. Her awards include multiple Student Marshal recognitions and a keynote speaking role at UC Riverside.
