Barbara Chaparro

Barbara Chaparro is a Professor of Human Factors at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Human Factors & Behavioral Neurobiology. She leads the Research in User eXperience (RUX) Lab and previously directed Wichita State University's Software Usability Research Laboratory (SURL). With 28 years of industry and academic experience, her research focuses on usability assessment, mobile computing, and user experience across diverse technologies.

Education:

• PhD in Psychology, Texas Tech University (1990)
• BS in Psychology, University of Richmond (1985)

Research Interests: Dr. Chaparro explores UX design principles for automotive interfaces, AR/VR systems, and inclusive technology. She emphasizes applying human factors to improve product usability for all demographics, particularly older adults and users with disabilities. Current projects include evaluating extended reality devices and studying mental models in driver-vehicle interaction.
