معرفی
Barbara Bowen is a Senior Lecturer and Academic Chair of Conservation and Wildlife Biology at Murdoch University’s School of Environment and Conservation Sciences. With over 30 years of teaching experience, she specializes in plant biology, conservation biology, and ecosystem management. Her roles include undergraduate teaching, research supervision, and interdisciplinary curriculum development across units like Environmental Biology and Australian Biodiversity. Her research focuses on plant resilience post-fire, disturbance effects on ecosystems, and the interdependency of plant-animal populations for ecosystem management strategies.
Education:
- PhD in Botany (1987–1991), University of Western Australia
- BSc (Hons) in Zoology (1979–1982), University of Western Australia
Research Interests: Dr. Bowen investigates plant response to fire, including seedling establishment, nutrient allocation, and carbohydrate storage in recovery. She also studies ecosystem disturbances’ impacts on animal populations and integrates botany and zoology for holistic management strategies. Recent work includes fire interval effects on Phytophthora dieback and soil microbiome roles in tree decline.
Teaching & Awards: Recognized for excellence in teaching, she has received the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence (2016), Best Teaching Survey Award (2015), and Teaching Excellence Award (2007). Her teaching emphasizes empowering students through foundational skills and applied advanced research projects.
Awards & Honors:
- Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (2016)
- Learning and Teaching Award – Best Teaching Survey (2015)
- Vice Chancellor's Teaching Excellence Award (2007)
Grants & Collaborations: Her research spans plant-pathogen interactions, fire ecology, and biodiversity conservation. Key projects include studies on Tuart (Eucalyptus gomphocephala) decline, Phytophthora resistance, and ecosystem restoration strategies.
