Barbara Bickel

Barbara Bickel is Associate Professor of Art Education Emerita and creative co-director of Studio M* research lab. Her practice spans collaborative art, arts-based inquiry, trance-based methods, and restorative learning. Bickel's PhD in Art Education received the AERA Outstanding Dissertation Award (2009).

With a career spanning 30+ years, she has presented at 80+ conferences and curated 27 solo exhibitions. Research interests include connective aesthetics, Matrixial theory, ancestral healing, and place-centered inquiry. She co-founded Artizein: Arts and Teaching Journal and the Gestare Art Collective.

Publications include 'Art, Ritual and Trance Inquiry' (2020) and co-authored 'Art-Care Practices for Restoring the Communal' (2023). Bickel has developed curricula integrating arts-based and contemplative practices across educational contexts.
