Barbara Altendorfer is a Research Associate at the University Institute for Molecular Regenerative Medicine, Paracelsus Medical University. Her work focuses on neuroinflammation, Alzheimer's disease, and the role of Omega-3 fatty acids in modulating gut-brain interactions.
Research highlights:
- Demonstrated how blood serum from Alzheimer's patients alters microglial function (2025)
- Investigated EPA's impact on gut microbiota and immune markers in Alzheimer's mouse models (2025)
- Explored dietary factors' influence on brain aging susceptibility (2024)
- Linked platelet depletion to exacerbated Alzheimer's pathology (2023)
- Characterized platelet molecular profiles in aging and Alzheimer's (2023)
She co-supervised a Master's thesis on Omega-3 supplementation effects in Alzheimer's disease and organized educational workshops in pharmacology. Her 2021 publication received the PMU Science Get Together 2nd Place award in Salzburg.
Key collaborations include institutions across Europe, with publications in Nutrients, Neural Regeneration Research, and Frontiers in Molecular Biosciences. Active in conference participation (AD/PD Conference 2025) and peer-review activities.
