Baptiste Monsaingeon is a socio-anthropologist and researcher at the C2RMF (Centre de Recherche et de Restauration des Musées de France) under Labex Patrima. He coordinates the TOC project, addressing technological obsolescence in cultural heritage conservation. He teaches sociology and anthropology at the Faculty of Philosophy, Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne.
His research focuses on environmentalization of waste management, plastic pollution in oceans, and contemporary art conservation challenges. The TOC project develops reflexive tools for conservation-restoration in technologically obsolete contexts, particularly analyzing museum collections' obsolescence patterns.
Publications include studies on plastic oceanic debris, environmental metaphors in disaster narratives, and methodological approaches to socio-anthropological fieldwork. His doctoral thesis (2014) explored household waste governance’s environmental aspects in Europe.
He leads the Labex Patrima-funded TOC initiative, bridging anthropology with conservation science. Future work emphasizes sustainable practices for preserving technologically complex artworks amid rapid obsolescence trends.
