Baptiste Gault

Professor Baptiste Gault holds a joint appointment as a Professor at Imperial College London (Department of Materials, Faculty of Engineering) and the Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung in Düsseldorf, where he leads the Atom Probe Tomography Group. Since February 2018, he directs an ERC-Consolidator-funded research group focused on hydrogen in metals using atom probe tomography. He is an Editor for Materialia and Associate Editor for Acta Materialia and Scripta Materialia.

• Education: PhD in Physics (University of Rouen, 2007).
• Prior roles include research scientist positions at the University of Sydney (2007–2009, 2010–2012), a Marie Curie Fellowship at the University of Oxford (2009–2010), and a brief academic appointment as Assistant Professor at McMaster University (2012).

Research focuses on atomic-scale characterization techniques, particularly atom probe tomography, applied to materials science challenges such as hydrogen embrittlement and thermoelectric materials. His work bridges condensed matter physics, mechanical engineering, and materials engineering.

He maintains an affiliation with the University of Oxford as an Academic Visitor since 2013 and has industry experience as a Senior Publisher at Elsevier (2012–2015), managing materials engineering journals.
